Our Public Commitment to Child Safety
At Wasabi Kids, the safety, wellbeing, dignity and rights of children and young people are at the heart of everything we do.
Wasabi Kids provides Japanese cultural education, performances and interactive experiences for children and young people across Australia. We are committed to creating environments where every child feels safe, respected, included, heard and valued.
We have zero tolerance for child abuse, harm, neglect, exploitation or any behaviour that compromises the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.
Our Commitment
Wasabi Kids is committed to:
putting the safety, wellbeing and best interests of children and young people at the centre of our programs, performances and interactions;
respecting and upholding the rights of children and young people, including their right to feel safe and to have their views heard;
creating environments where children and young people feel comfortable speaking up, asking questions, expressing their views and raising concerns;
listening to children and taking their views seriously in matters that affect them, in ways appropriate to their age and development;
treating every child with dignity, respect and fairness;
providing inclusive and welcoming experiences that respect children and young people from all backgrounds, cultures, identities, abilities and family circumstances;
promoting cultural safety and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people, and recognising their right to feel welcome, safe, valued, included and respected;
recognising and responding appropriately to the diverse needs of children and young people, including children with disability or other circumstances that may increase their vulnerability;
maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and standards of behaviour whenever we work with or around children and young people;
taking reasonable steps to identify, prevent and minimise risks of harm to children and young people in our physical and online environments;
ensuring that concerns, disclosures or allegations relating to the safety or wellbeing of a child are taken seriously and responded to appropriately;
working respectfully with schools, early childhood services, families and communities to promote child safety and wellbeing;
ensuring that people working with children understand their responsibilities for child safety and wellbeing and are appropriately supported to carry them out;
maintaining appropriate policies, procedures and practices to support child safety and wellbeing;
regularly reviewing and improving our child safety practices.
Speaking up about child safety
Every child has the right to feel safe and to be listened to.
Wasabi Kids encourages children, young people, families, educators and other members of the community to raise any concern about the safety or wellbeing of a child.
We take concerns seriously and are committed to responding appropriately and in accordance with our responsibilities and the applicable laws and child safety requirements in the state or territory where we operate.
